How the SANDER SOFA became the sculptural heart of a new build in Düsseldorf
Behind a restrained facade in Düsseldorf, set within the listed Weisse Siedlung in Golzheim, Studio Konture has designed a home for a family of six that is anything but restrained. At the centre of the living area stands our SANDER SOFA, sculptural, generous and sensual, configured free in the room.
The concept: from cool to warm
The original plan for the interior came from a traditional joinery and felt too ordered to the family, too cool, too far from everyday life with four children. Studio Konture turned exactly that around. Instead of a strict, fully planned living landscape, what emerged is a home with corners, curves, colour and room for real life. Playful, but never arbitrary. It is precisely in that space in between, between a home that works for children and a real design ambition, that the actual subject of the project unfolds: contemporary living can be experimental and deeply human at the same time.
SANDER, free in the room
Rather than placing the SANDER SOFA against a wall, Studio Konture chose a free standing configuration, SANDER as a seating island that opens the room instead of limiting it. That is one of the reasons SANDER suits projects like this one: its organic language of form enters into a dialogue with the architecture instead of submitting to it, and sets a soft, liveable counterpoint to the clearer lines of the new build. More than a place to linger, SANDER becomes the connecting element between living room, family life and architecture, a piece of furniture that does not just fill the space but carries it.
With SANDER, the individual configuration, the choice of fabric and the placement are not add ons. They are part of the concept. Every project gets its own answer, depending on the floor plan, the light and the people who live there.
