MEYER TISCH
THE FEELING OF HOME
At tables, we eat together, share our thoughts, and exchange ideas. The MEYER TABLE is a place of gathering. MEYER is warm and inviting, creating an immediate sense of comfort. Crafted from solid ash or solid oak, the design of the MEYER table is both progressive and classic at once. The natural beauty of the high-quality wood is combined with a strikingly light silhouette. Thanks to its understated appearance, the MEYER TABLE is perfectly suited as a dining and kitchen table, but shines just as much in the home office and workspace.
INSPIRATION
DAVID WENDT ON THE MEYER TABLE
“When I was working on the MEYER TABLE in 2014 and 2015, solid wood tables were often conceived as very heavy objects. A thick tabletop, substantial legs, traditional joinery. The material itself was beautiful, but the overall appearance could often feel bulky. I was interested in finding a way for a table made from solid oak to feel refined and precise without losing the strength of the material.
The tabletop is made from 26 millimetres of solid oak. A bevel along the upper and lower edges makes it appear significantly slimmer in profile. During the development process, it really came down to millimetres. How wide and how high should the bevel be to create the right sense of harmony? That exact proportion is what gives the MEYER TABLE its lightness.
The legs are another important part of the design. They taper into a triangular shape and are set at a slight angle. This makes them appear very delicate despite the solid wood, while still giving the table stability. Even the adapters follow the same geometry. To me, this creates the impression that the tabletop and legs flow into one another rather than simply being assembled as separate parts.
For me, the quality becomes especially apparent in the details. If you turn the table over, you can see the precise milling where the legs are fitted into the tabletop. The entire table is assembled using just eight screws. The edges are sanded by hand and the solid oak is treated with a specially developed wax and oil blend. You can still feel the wood and its surface, but it never feels rustic. That was exactly what mattered to me. To interpret solid wood in a refined and contemporary way.
MEYER is made in Germany, and that craftsmanship is present in every transition and connection. At the same time, the construction is highly practical for everyday use. Because the table has no apron, it offers plenty of legroom. And solid wood has one major advantage for me. Even after many years, the surface can be sanded down and treated again. Afterwards, the table can look almost new. That simply is not possible in the same way with a veneered table. When the material and construction are right, a table like MEYER can accompany generations. To me, that is a much more contemporary form of lasting value than constantly replacing furniture.
That is also why MEYER works not only as a dining table at home. We see it in restaurants, offices and canteens as well. Especially in larger spaces, the solid wood brings something familiar and residential into the room without becoming decorative or heavy. Combined with the MEYER BENCHES, it creates a very clear and calm atmosphere that still never feels cold.
Looking at the design today, in 2026, more than ten years after developing it, I would not fundamentally change anything. MEYER does not follow a trend. Its aesthetic comes from the material, the construction and the proportions. Perhaps that is exactly why it feels just as relevant today as it did then, and why I believe it will still feel contemporary fifty years from now.”
