A sofa is where the day comes to rest, where you get close and the world stays outside. Here is a short guide to placement, fabrics and configuration, and to finding the sofa that really suits you, from SANDER to HENN to WEBER.

A high quality sofa is rarely just a piece of furniture. It is the place where closeness happens. Which is why it pays not to play safe with a sofa, but to look closely at where it stands, how it looks and how it feels.

Away from the wall: the sofa as a seating island

Instinct says sofa against the wall. But a sofa can also stand as an island in the middle of the room, connecting spaces such as a kitchen and a living room instead of simply dividing them. Standing free in the room creates a completely different sense of generosity, and the space gains a new centre. And this does not only work in large rooms.

For fabrics we work with the most respected names in the interior world: Kvadrat, Dedar Milano and our own Atelier Collection. Beyond that we can source fabrics individually for you, if you fall in love with something we do not yet carry. From silk to mohair, we have done it all.

A sofa made to measure: plan yours in the configurator

In the configurator you can plan a sofa exactly as you need it, in the shape and size that suits your room. The configurator is built on the pCon planner, which makes it ideal for planners and architects too. It is also where you can select the flame retardant option, an important point for contract and project work. For a home you do not need to select it.

With or without impregnation: your sofa with children and pets

The impregnation is optional, but it is a sensible addition for families, households with animals, and anyone who entertains a lot at home. It is hypoallergenic, meets the OEKO-TEX 100 standard and contains no harmful chemicals. There is a deep dive on this in the FAQs if you would like to know more.

Heights, depths and times of day

A sofa does not have to work the same way at every moment of the day. The SANDER SOFA sits low and easy, made for evenings when you want to watch an entire series in one go. The SANDER UP ARMCHAIR sits higher and answers a different need: upright and present, ideal for a conversation with guests, focused work on a laptop, or simply a wide awake moment in the day. Two seater, three seater or a wide expanse to stretch out on: depending on the need and the hour, a sofa is allowed to do something different.

Colour instead of grey and beige

Patterned fabrics are an obvious choice for armchairs and cushions, but there is no need to play safe with the sofa itself either. Something individual, something personal, gives a home character beyond grey and beige. And yes, of course we can deliver understated too, if that is what you like. Colour is still our passion, precisely because northern Europe already has plenty of grey. With colour we bring a piece of life back into the house. Combinations of colours and patterned fabrics are just as rewarding. Design is not a side note

Sometimes a new sofa arrives and immediately looks bulky, like a foreign object in the room. That cannot happen with us. With its organic language of form, SANDER interacts with modern architecture straight away and sets a warm counterpoint to all those straight lines. You feel it instantly: this is a place to arrive. HENN brings architectural clarity and structure instead, very linear, which is why architects choose it so often. WEBER is our sofa for demanding interior projects: large, welcoming configurations for lobbies and luxury hotels, with electrification, fire protection and everything else an ambitious public interior needs.

Common questions

How do I really recognise quality?

Not from pictures, but from feel. Look at the seams and the finishing, and compare the seating comfort in person. Many brands promise quality, and what arrives at home is often something else. The construction of our sofas is high end luxury, and you notice it most when you sit down yourself. Our dealer list shows you where to try it near you.

How do I start if I am unsure?

The best first step: order our material samples and hold the fabric in your hand. And if you are unsure about placement, configuration or colour, we offer a free, individual interior consultation. Asking for help and inspiration is not a detour, it is often the fastest route to a home with character that suits you.
