Your bed, your rhythm
Everything you should know about our beds and headboards
A bed is where one day ends and the next begins. With us you will find three very different beds, FARO, ZIANS and KAYA, plus two headboards, FREY and FREY MAX, which can be combined with any existing bed frame. Here is a guide to which bed or headboard suits your bedroom.
Why wood is the better material for a bedroom
Few rooms benefit as much from a warm material as the bedroom. Cheap veneers and lacquered surfaces stay on the surface. Solid wood takes in warmth and gives it back, which is exactly what you need at the end of a day. Our oak shows a warm honey tone with a natural grain, every piece unique. Sleeping naturally, for us, means lying in a living, high quality material that breathes and only grows more beautiful with time.
FARO
The inspiration for FARO came from the golden ratio, the principle from painting and architecture that stands for harmony and beauty. Lines and surfaces follow it not as a single measurement but across the whole interplay of forms. What emerges is a gentle calm, and that is where the design begins. The frame appears to float and yet, seen from the side, remains visibly connected to the floor. The low overall height creates a grounding that feels good and makes even smaller rooms feel generous. At the foot end, a surface holds the things that mean something to you: a book, a memory from a trip, slippers for cooler evenings.
Because FARO is so low and so self contained, it does not need a wall. It works just as well free in the room, as an object in its own right, opening a space rather than closing it off. It also makes a perfect family bed.
ZIANS
A bed should be something you look forward to, a place of longing and shelter where experiences turn into memories. That is exactly the thought behind ZIANS. It breaks with the everyday and creates an intimate space of dreamlike comfort. Natural sleep is at the centre of the design here too and runs through every decision. The wood forms a visual and tactile contrast to a soft duvet and brings its own naturalness into the room. The clear form is the foundation for a kind of island of safety, holding out against the worries of the day just as it does against the cold night air.
Its most distinctive detail is the deliberately interrupted leg, a small formal break in an otherwise very reduced, almost Japanese silhouette. That single deviation from pure geometry is what gives ZIANS its signature. The same goes for the fine milled detail on the headboard, which puts the wood centre stage. Custom sizes and special requests are always possible with ZIANS too.
KAYA
With KAYA, wellbeing and calm come first. The construction is reduced to the essentials, functional and timeless, drawing on the philosophy of classic futon beds: restorative sleep through unhurried simplicity and a tangible connection to the ground. No distraction. As with all our beds, the timber for KAYA comes from sustainable forestry in Germany and Austria. That is where its honest character comes from.
The integrated slatted base is made of solid beech. It is exceptionally stable and brings a light, natural elasticity that adds to the comfort. The precise interlocking of base and frame also ensures ideal ventilation. The mattress sits just a few centimetres recessed into the frame, which underlines KAYA's pure character and softens the edges pleasantly when you get up. For anyone who wants sleep in its purest form, without any fuss: minimal.
FREY and FREY MAX
Waking up together the way you did in that hotel last summer, leaning back and dreaming on for another half hour: that feeling is what FREY MAX is about. The headboard is generous and inviting, an ideal companion for FARO, KAYA or ZIANS, and for your existing bed at home. The fabrics range from quiet, delicate colours to bold patterns. FREY MAX looks particularly beautiful in Tiger Mountain by Dedar Milano as a statement, and just as good kept calm in a mono fabric from the Atelier Collection. The foam comes from local production in the Swabian Alb and is made to last. FREY MAX mounts easily on any wall, at the height of your bed, and it softens the acoustics in the room along the way, which gives a bedroom an extra layer of shelter.
FREY is the lighter, more restrained version of the same principle, for anyone looking for a finer headboard that takes up less space while still improving the acoustics and comfort of the room.
Details that make the difference
What sets our beds and headboards apart is rarely the basic form. It is the design decision behind it. With FARO it is the golden ratio governing every proportion, and the quality of the detailing. With ZIANS it is the deliberately interrupted leg that breaks the clear form, and the milled details. With KAYA it is the weightless futon character. With FREY MAX it is the seam down the centre, which gives the headboard a calm, almost architectural order, and the most exclusive fabrics. Every transition, every moment and every millimetre is carefully balanced, and that is where the particular aesthetic of our beds comes from. All of this, and much more, is a conscious design decision rather than a coincidence. Which is exactly why it is worth looking closely at a piece of furniture you begin and end every day with.
Custom sizes: because handwork makes it possible
Because we make all of our beds and headboards by hand in Germany, custom sizes are not the exception here, they are everyday work. Extra lengths, particular widths, individual requests: we make them, because we do not produce off the shelf, we produce for you.
FARO and KAYA as family beds
FARO and KAYA both work beautifully as family beds, for different reasons. FARO convinces through its low build, close to the floor and easy to reach, ideal for children who want to climb in and out on their own. KAYA is built a little higher, but it offers exceptional stability and can be made in very large sizes and extra widths, which makes KAYA the ideal choice for families who want to sleep together in one generous bed. On request we can also build KAYA lower for your family. Together with the FREY MAX HEADBOARD it looks fantastic.
Common questions
How do I find the right width for my headboard?
The headboard should be slightly wider than your bed frame. Measure the outer dimensions of the frame, not the size of your mattress. That is a mistake that happens often.
Are custom sizes possible for extra lengths too?
Yes, that is exactly what our production in Germany is for. Write to us with the dimensions you need and we will talk it through.
Low and free in the room like FARO, quietly characterful like ZIANS, or reduced like a futon like KAYA: each of our beds carries its own attitude. If you already have a bed frame and are only looking for a new headboard, FREY is the lighter option and FREY MAX the more generous one. Both mount on any wall, independently of the bed.
