FARO BED Large (180 x 200 cm)
The gaze follows a crystal-clear stream through dense deciduous forests to the shimmering line on the horizon, where the sun awakens from the clouds. In this gentle tranquility, the inspiration for the FARO bed was born. Lines and surfaces follow the golden ratio, a principle that stands for harmony and beauty in painting and architecture. When your hands touch the velvety, finely sanded solid wood of the FARO bed, you can feel a pleasant warmth and connection to nature. The frame appears to float, while from the side it looks balanced and grounded. The minimalist aesthetic, combined with your fluffy duvet, creates a retreat that gently prepares you for the night. With its low overall height, you experience a soothing sense of grounding, and even smaller rooms feel spacious. A central element is the inviting surface at the footboard for cherished things: a captivating novel, a small keepsake from past travels to dream about, or quite practically, warm slippers for cooler evenings. FARO is a quiet design, imbued with harmony and tranquility, that leaves room to dream.

Designer Leo Stolte on the FARO Bed
The idea for the FARO Bed came about during several visits to the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, a place that inspires me greatly. Not least because I grew up in Potsdam before being drawn back to Berlin a few years ago. The exhibition of Edvard Munch's landscape paintings deeply moved me. His sensitive portrayal of human emotions and his fascination with nature are overwhelming. Munch's works, which convey a balance between clarity and emotional depth, inspired me to design a bed that can express equally multifaceted emotions. I wanted the proportions and design of the FARO Bed to unfold the same sense of calm and grace that one experiences when looking at a landscape painting for a long time. That is exactly what I had in mind.
In developing the FARO Bed, my focus was on the harmonious connection of aesthetics and functionality. The lines and surfaces follow the golden ratio – a principle known in art and architecture for its natural proportions and harmonious effect. This concept gives the design not only visual beauty, but also a sense of calm and balance. I also need this personally when I want to switch off from the day in the evening. A central design element is the low overall height of the bed. This deliberate design promotes a sense of spaciousness in the room. The reduced height also conveys a special connection to the earth and symbolically to nature. The shelf or step at the foot of the bed was also particularly important to me. I wanted to create a place where you can place beloved things that are close to you even at night – be it an inspiring book, a small souvenir from travels, or dried lavender blossoms. A "step" between day and night, which creates a clear transition. It gives the design a very unconventional moment, like a detail in a painting that then makes up the visual appeal in the overall composition. When it came to the material, my choice immediately fell on solid wood. No other material offers such timeless beauty and warmth. It conveys a natural clarity that helps me leave the day behind. The wood comes from sustainable forestry and can be sanded and re-oiled over the years – an object for generations. Every frame of the FARO Bed is handcrafted to ensure the highest quality and precision. I think that with our hands we also give the object a soul and energy. "FARO" is not just a random name, but is derived from the word "lighthouse" and symbolizes for me the light and clarity that we sometimes lose in the night when we lose ourselves in thought.
The FARO Bed is my invitation to immerse yourself in the harmony and emotional depth that impressed me so much in landscape painting. It is my vision of a space that conveys a sense of security and peace both aesthetically and functionally.
