OUT BAR
One night only in Kreuzberg
At the end of August, we opened OUT BAR on Ohlauer Straße. For one evening, with family, friends, partners, and everyone who belongs to OUT. A look back at a summer evening in Kreuzberg that we'll remember with a smile.
Berlin has long practice in briefly using spaces for something other than their intended purpose. Shops that become galleries for a weekend. Courtyards that become a stage for an evening. Hardly any city treats its ground floors so naturally as something provisional. This attitude isn't a trend, it's part of the city's culture, and it sits close to our work.
On August 28th, we turned a small café in front of our showroom on Ohlauer Straße into the OUT BAR for one night. No sales, no program, no stage. A bar, a summer evening, a full space.
A space that changes function
A showroom is a strange place. It shows furniture in a state it's actually never really in: unused, tidied up, viewed from a distance. What makes a sofa a sofa isn't decided by how it looks, but in the moment when three people squeeze together on it because a fourth still needs room.
That's exactly what happened that evening. Tables became surfaces to set things on, armchairs became islands for conversation, and chairs became something to dance on. Our pieces did what they were built for. They're made in family-run workshops in Bavaria and on the Swabian Alb, built for use rather than for display, and an evening like this is the most honest kind of product test we know.
Kreuzberg, outside
After an hour, the evening wasn't really indoors anymore anyway. It had moved out onto the sidewalk, in groups, backs to the street, under the neon sign OBJEKTE UNSERER TAGE hanging red above the façade, tinting the faces below it.
That image describes pretty precisely where we stand. A Berlin ground floor, a line that isn't really a line, neighbors walking by and looking over. We design furniture in a city where a large part of life happens in front of the buildings, and we don't see that as a footnote but as part of the brand's origin. OUT was founded in Berlin in 2015, with the aim of creating objects that reflect a real need for our generation and that last beyond the season. An evening where friends, partners, and staff stand in the same space is the social version of that same aim.
What remains
No launch, no occasion, no collection. Just a good evening, good conversations, and a full space. Sometimes that's the whole point. The OUT BAR was open for one night. Whether it comes back is up to next summer.
