Lima meets Kreuzberg
How we celebrated a dinner full of good spirits at our WEDEKIND TABLE with our neighbour Arianna Plevisani of Ari's
We believe the best memories happen around a table: on games nights, after a project finally lands, or over an unforgettable dinner in good company. We experienced exactly that again recently with our neighbour and friend Arianna Plevisani, who brought the flavours of Lima straight to our WEDEKIND TABLE, surrounded by SCHULZ, WAGNER and FELS CHAIRS from our collection. It was not the first time. Long before Arianna opened her own restaurant with Ari's, we had already run a small dinner series together at HAUS OF OUT, back before she became one of the most sought after names in Berlin's food scene. Here is a video of her from 2022, where it all began.
From Lima via New York to Kreuzberg
Arianna grew up in Lima in a family of restaurateurs, her mother a well known cook in Peru herself. For a long time it was not at all clear to her that she would end up in a kitchen. She got there by detours, after time in New York and years in which she had planned something entirely different. It took a pop up for her to discover where her real passion lay. Out of those pop ups, ours among them, a small following grew over time, long before she settled in the Kreuzberg neighbourhood with Ari's. Today her restaurant, hidden in the courtyard of a former car workshop, is no longer an insider tip. It is written about internationally, from the Berlin press to the global food scene.
The style: Peruvian meets American diner
What Arianna cooks does not fit into a single category, and that is exactly the point. She mixes the flavours of her childhood in Lima with the diner culture she came to love in New York: ceviche and pollo a la brasa meet burgers and milkshakes, all with an unmistakable Peruvian twist. For her, good food is above all one thing: connection. Peruvian food, she says herself, cannot be eaten sadly: "Peruvian food has it all, you can't be sad when you take a bite of ceviche. It's like eating pure good vibes!" That is exactly the feeling she brought to our table. Loud, colourful, full of good spirits.
Kreuzberg, our home
Our showroom HAUS OF OUT sits in the middle of Kreuzberg, and stories like this one are the reason we want to be exactly here. Among studios, independent shops and restaurants that need no big stage to be remarkable, Ari's is one of those places. Just a few steps away from us, on Glogauer Strasse, Arianna serves her version of Lima in Berlin, with no sign on the door and a reputation that long ago outgrew the neighbourhood.
Why this table
An evening like this needs a table that reflects the culture of eating together. Our WEDEKIND TABLE is made for exactly that: solid oak, warm under your hand, with a grain that is naturally alive rather than lifelessly perfect. As with almost all of our solid wood tables we work with waxed surfaces, so that stains, rings and the small mishaps of a good evening are not a disaster but simply something you refresh. That, for us, is what makes a dining table the heart of a home: it should be lived on, not protected.
If you would like to know more about the care and the thinking behind our solid wood tables, you will find it in our guide At the table.
Evenings like this remind us again and again why we do what we do. Not simply building furniture, but creating spaces for exactly these moments, in the neighbourhood, with friends, around a table that will still look as good in twenty years as it does today.
