HOW CAN I PICTURE YOUR BLACK SHADE?

The black-stained solid oak has an ultra-matte, timeless look. Smaller knots and growth marks are normal. Thanks to the natural characteristics of the material, the color reproduction always varies and can also appear more anthracite, depending on the wood batch and grain. Since wood is a natural product, the grain is also always unique, making every piece one of a kind. It is best to order our samples (HERE and take a look at them yourself.

WHICH WOOD FINISH DO YOU RECOMMEND, OILED OR LACQUERED?

This is a very individual question. Ideally, we would like to advise you personally and take your living circumstances into account. Here are a few points to help you weigh the respective advantages.

OILED TABLETOP:

The advantage of an oiled finish is that you can re-oil the WEDEKIND table again and again, and scratches stand no chance. The surface is ultra-matte, and the wood is showcased in all its beauty. Our designer David has a 3-year-old daughter himself, who likes to eat spaghetti at the table and occasionally maltreats the WEDEKIND with a fork or likes to paint masterpieces on the tabletop. Thanks to multiple applications of oil, the table is so impregnated and robust that it handles this well. In the worst case, it can be touched up with a small sanding sponge and wax. We offer a suitable care set for this (HERE). Even though this finish may seem to require more effort at first glance, it has many advantages over lacquered surfaces, especially since the tabletop cannot be ruined by peeling lacquer or scratches. For these reasons, an oiled surface is also a sustainable and rewarding long-term decision for a solid wood table.

LACQUERED TABLETOP:

Lacquer on solid wood is not necessarily sensible. However, if wiping with water is particularly important to you, a protective lacquer coating can make sense. The look is similar to an oiled finish, but the lacquer seals the pores, creating a minimal shine - although overall it still appears rather matte.

The disadvantage of lacquer is that once it is damaged, e.g., if something falls heavily on the wood or kids stab the tabletop with full force with a fork, you cannot fix it yourself. Furthermore, a lacquered table is more susceptible to unfavorable indoor conditions (HERE). It all depends on your individual living circumstances. This probably does not make your decision any easier right now. If we had to recommend a specific option to you now, it would certainly be the oiled finish. The WEDEKIND can enrich your home beautifully for decades in this form, and minor mishaps can always be easily repaired. HOW MANY CHAIRS FIT AT THE WEDEKIND TABLE, AND DOES THE APRON INTERFER WHEN SITTING?

This depends somewhat on your chairs. As a general rule, about 60 - 90 cm of space per person and chair is recommended for the home. A 200 cm long WEDEKIND can thus accommodate 3 guests on each side, as well as one person at each end of the table. Since the table legs are on the outside, you have plenty of space. On a bench that is available to match the WEDEKIND table (HERE), you can also have your guests snuggle together a bit more.
