David Wendt on the SANDER UP SOFA (Head of Design)

SANDER UP is the natural extension of the SANDER family – born from the idea of carrying the familiar softness and playful character of SANDER into new spaces. The classic SANDER SOFA, with its low lounge height, invites you to spend an entire Sunday together – never once feeling as if you’re missing out on anything.

SANDER UP builds on this spirit and expands its possibilities with a significantly higher seat height of around 44 cm. It remains a sofa you’ll want to sink into, yet it also suits representative spaces, conversations, meetings, and encounters – and even smaller rooms where comfort matters despite limited space. And of course, you’ll find the unmistakable SANDER feeling here too – available as an armchair, a 2-seater, or a 3-seater. We’re not just talking about comfort – we make it tangible. Anyone who has tried SANDER UP immediately feels the difference compared to a budget sofa. I am convinced of that. Its design language remains unmistakably SANDER – with generous cushions, gently sculpted volume, and a hint of postmodernism that brings to mind clouds or marshmallows. With SANDER UP, a new facet emerges: the armrests, padded like a marshmallow sandwich, offer support, trace a clear line, and give the sofa an almost floating lightness. When designing the armrests, it was important to me to create a clear, defining line. All our designs are created at HAUS OF OUT in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where I seek the balance between timeless aesthetics and a unique, unmistakable signature. We don’t recycle outdated concepts or cling to old value systems – we chart our own path in the here and now. Not everything from the past is better; it’s time to look forward. Like every sofa in our collection, SANDER UP is handcrafted in Southern Germany. The combination of artisanal precision, innovative upholstery, and a premium spring core gives it a soul you can feel the moment you sit down.

SANDER UP stands alongside SANDER as a new form of expression within the design family. It shares SANDER’s sensuality and character while opening new possibilities – for relaxed evenings at home, for spaces where you welcome guests and hold conversations, and even for places where space is at a premium.

Every object from OUT is manufactured fairly and sustainably in Germany, from the first draft to the last touch. We observe the highest environmental and social standards.
