Berlin isn't exactly known for its soft side. In Brandlhuber's radical architecture, LINDE meets color, body, and dance for NOWNESS in a four-part film series. Four moods, four choreographies, four perspectives on a single seating object. And each time, softness is staged anew.

For the first appearance of LINDE, we sought out NOWNESS, one of the platforms we ourselves have admired for years for its feel for culture and zeitgeist. We filmed at ANTI the House of Social Wellness, in a brutalist building by Arno Brandlhuber on Brunnenstraße. It's the first part of a series of four films portraying the feeling of the LINDE CHAIR.

The space is raw concrete, a ballet barre, and light shimmering through semi-transparent curtains. Within it, a single dancer, barefoot, and LINDE, alone in the pool of light. Between the hardness of the architecture and the soft pink of LINDE, no contradiction arises — instead, a tension that holds. You see it immediately: here, rigor meets softness, and both come out ahead.

The central idea behind LINDE is hard to capture in a single photo: the feeling of an armchair, carried over to the dining table. That's exactly why we chose contemporary dance. A dancer leans back into LINDE, her back following the movement of the backrest, her hand tracing the folds of the fabric's drape. The body shows what words can only hint at: yielding, being caught, arriving. Dance and LINDE share the same moment — that of letting go.

Our Creative Director Janis describes the idea behind the film like this:

"We were drawn to the contrast between the raw, brutalist architecture of the Anti-Space and the lively, contemporary LINDE chairs by Objekte Unserer Tage. At the heart of it was a play of opposites: monumental architecture meets delicate movement, hardness meets softness, concrete meets color. Each film interprets this tension in its own way — sometimes through classical dance, sometimes experimentally."

Our Head of Design David Wendt developed the chair from the image of a flower calyx — a form that opens up while offering support at the same time. "Not well-behaved. Not merely pleasing. But with our character," he says. And that's exactly what you see: legs, seat, and back follow the same line, as if drawn in a single sweep. The backrest is released via a wire-and-foam construction; it gently moves with you as you lean back, cradling the body instead of resisting it. No hard wood at your back, as you'd expect from a classic chair — instead, the feeling of sinking into something that flows.

We craft LINDE by hand in Germany, at a time when most furniture is made from mass production rather than devotion and artful craftsmanship. You choose fabric and finish individually, from the smooth, pure version to LINDE SOFT with its soft drape. Individual parts can be replaced if needed — LINDE is built to stay, not to be replaced.

The name carries this idea forward, too. Unter den Linden is, for us, a place in Berlin that brings together movement, history, and everyday life. That's exactly how LINDE should feel — familiar and new at once.
