LINDE TABLE
The LINDE TABLE is a statement. Classic in form, yet unexpected in its materiality. When your hand touches the table, you feel a sensory richness in every detail. The column and underside are upholstered in textile, which is unusual in itself. A subtle layer of padding creates a soft, refined touch, while fabric or wipeable leather appears perfectly smooth. The seams are set into precisely milled channels, with a level of craftsmanship typically found in the interior of a luxury automobile. This is where the technique comes from. Above, the tabletop in solid ash wood sits like a macaron, guiding the hand softly along its edge. Each lamella is carefully selected, arranged and glued to achieve a refined and balanced composition. The surface is finished in three layers with multiple drying phases. You can still feel the floral grain with your fingertips, yet the finish is resistant enough that glasses leave no marks. LINDE is a contemporary and passionate interpretation of German craftsmanship, showing everything that can be achieved at this production site.
INSPIRATION LINDE TABLE
“With the LINDE TABLE, the idea was to give a very archetypal form a new identity. I’m interested in that moment when something familiar suddenly triggers a different feeling.
The approach was to combine a clear, almost classical form with an unexpected materiality. Upholstering the column and underside in textile is unusual. Whether in durable fabric or wipeable vegan leather, everything is crafted to feel calm and precise, yet soft to the touch, supported by a subtle layer of padding. It was important not to think about materiality in a rigid way. Fabric might seem delicate at first, but in everyday use it is surprisingly robust and easy to maintain. At the same time, vegan leather offers an alternative that is nearly indestructible. The table should not create hesitation, but feel natural to use.
Details like the seams were essential. They are not simply applied but set into milled channels, becoming part of the design itself. This level of precision is more commonly found in luxury automotive interiors. I was interested in translating that into furniture, using techniques that are well established in southern Germany. Producing a table like LINDE requires true craftsmanship.
The tabletop is a subject in itself. It sits like a rounded macaron on the base, creating a sense of lightness in combination with the materials. Each wooden lamella is selected and arranged by hand. We don’t buy pre-made panels. The outer pieces are wider, becoming narrower towards the center, creating a calm and balanced composition.
The finish is applied in multiple layers with extended drying phases. It takes time, and time creates quality. The grain remains tangible, while the surface is robust enough that glasses leave almost no marks.
The name LINDE is closely connected to Berlin. Unter den Linden is a place where movement, history and everyday life coexist. The table is always conceived in dialogue with the LINDE CHAIR. Together, they form a composition that only fully unfolds as a whole.”
